When to Conduct ICT

In-context testing (ICT) is a review process that uses screenshots of your product UI (context) to validate translation quality. ICT ensures that the translation provided for your application is appropriate and of quality sufficient to provide your customers with a good experience. How frequently you conduct ICT in a continuous delivery environment where you are making frequent updates to the user interface and subsequently translating those updates is up to the product team's discretion.

 

We recommend that you conduct a ICT when you:

  1. Newly translate a product into one or more languages.
  2. Add a new language.
  3. Make large UI updates (with translation) in a given individual sprint.
  4. Have accumulated a sizeable number of translation updates.

Note: While it is not particularly cost effective to do a ICT every time you translate a handful of individual words or strings, you may decide that a ICT is necessary if the new translated content is highly visible or where inaccuracies may introduce significant risk. This is at the discretion of the product team.

 

Conduct a ICT in a Globalization Pipeline Environment

You can submit an ICT translation request through Globalization Pipeline so that translators can make changes or report defects in their standard translation platform, and receive it back. An issue tracking ID is used to organize the defects reported by assigned translators.
